In many countries, including the USA and Canada, an emergency number is mandatory for the transportation of dangerous goods. In addition, most airlines (IATA) prescribe the provision of an emergency number. Finally, every safety data sheet (SDS) must contain such an emergency number (Regulation 1907/2006/EC).
